A second-year Sevens student and classmate of Lisa. She works on the school newspaper. In the Japanese game, she has the nickname "Hanaji" (nosebleed) from the time she got a nosebleed in the girls' locker room (...take that as you will). Her English nickname is "Kozy" due to the fact that "kouji" (like in her name) can be transliterated as "Kozy" (For example, the producer of the early Persona games, Kouji Okada, went by Cozy Okada). A nice, chubby girl, she seems rather attached to Eikichi, who only knows that she's a Sevens student named Hanaji who likes Gas Chamber. When she's kidnapped by Sugimoto and taken to the Zodiac, the truth comes out: she's the same Miyabi Hanakouji that Eikichi had had a crush on since he was a kid. When they were children, she was pretty and popular, and Eikichi was chubby and shy, but they were best friends. Jealous boys in their class pulled down Eikichi's pants in front of Miyabi, and told him that Miyabi hated fat people, which deeply traumatized Eikichi. Out of guilt, Miyabi let herself go and became the chubby girl she was today, so when the New and Improved Eikichi met her, he didn't recognize her, and she was too ashamed to tell him who she was. Now she wishes to be skinny again so that she can look good for Eikichi (even though he tells her he likes her anyway) so she uses the Joker Charm, gets her wish of becoming skinny again, and goes off with Shadow Eikichi. (Not entirely bright, but...) Eikichi has to rescue her from the Scorpio Mansion, and then all is forgiven and they start to date. After that, she stays in the Gatten, waiting for Eikichi to come back from his battles.
PERSONALITY: While Miyabi is not shown for very long in the game, her appearances not only help move the game forward but also leaves an impression for the players to her character and just who she is the other main characters, specifically to Eikichi. It's obvious from the start that Miyabi is an inquisitive and curious girl. She works for the school newspaper and is the one who goes after the source of the rumors first about the Seven Sister's school emblem being cursed, namely going to the rival school, Kasugayama High School (aka "Cuss High", no really) herself and asking questions. Actually, she does this about three times in the game. The first being the aforementioned emblem curse rumor, the the Masked Circle rumor where she ends up nearly getting hurt by the "new leader" of Kasugayama High (that title belonging to Eikichi previously), and then a third time that allowed her to eventually play the Joker game and get her wish to be skinny again. It's clear that aside from her curiosity to investigate matters, she likes to take things into her own hands lending to somewhat of a stubborn streak.
She doesn't want to ask for help, the only time she does is when she asks Lisa and Tatsuya not to tell Eikichi, who currently doesn't recognize her, that she's the Miyabi he knew as a child. And even then, that's more a request than asking for help. But she also didn't ask or seek for any help when the boys began to bully Eikichi, she didn't ask for anyone to go with her when she investigated the rumors, one of which led to her nearly getting hurt by the gang leader Sugimoto, and she decided to take matters into her own hands once Eikichi found out who she was and was so ashamed. Eikichi didn't care that she was chubby now, but that didn't matter to her so took it upon herself to play the Joker game and wish to me thin again, just so she could be with Eikichi again; although she didn't notice that the Eikichi who took her into his arms and brought her to the Scorpio mansion was the Shadow Eikichi, the signifier being red eyes. This also leads to a quality that while some would say she might not be bright however, it's more that she seems to be a bit gullible and prone to listening to her emotions more than her head. She also can also falter under peer pressure such as when Eikichi was bullied for being friends with her when they were younger.
Miyabi never actually hated Eikichi and considered him a great friend, but the other boys had been jealous that the pretty Miyabi was hanging out with the fat Eikichi which is what lead the pantsing incident. But she eventually said that she did, she said some "cruel words" to him even though she didn't actually mean it due to peer pressure and being so embarrassed. This is why she became so guilt ridden and let herself go, becoming chubby herself and eventually unrecognizable to the new and improved Eikichi who was thin and much more confident in himself. This only reminded her of her guilt, wanting to hide and then eventually making that wish to Joker.
Ultimately, this leads everyone to know one thing. Miyabi, while guilt ridden over her words in the past, is actually a very sweet and kindhearted girl who really cares about Eikichi and cares about what's going on in the world. It's to the point that she has put herself in danger a few times for the truth, but she's not a bad person. She might care a bit too much about what others think of her, but that's a fairly relatable insecurity. She apologizes to Eikichi who forgives her because as he says in the game, he fell for her big heart, she was nice to him when everyone else made fun of him, and that she hadn't treated him any different. Anyone has the ability to fall under peer pressure, but it takes a lot and more to rise above that and apologize for those misdeeds. And throughout the game, she's always nice to the others not at all showing an ounce of cruelty despite those words she said that one time.

It was very late in the evening as Miyabi stepped over to the window overlooking the city of Lunatia. She couldn’t sleep, despite how comfortable it was to be in Eikichi’s arms. A solace she didn’t know she would need until all this happened. She wondered if it was better that they were here instead of home. Home where all that remained was Sumaru City and nothing else. The world had ended, something her brain was still struggling to comprehend. Had it really ended? Had they failed? Or was it all just a dream.
She placed her hand on the glass, gazing at the twinkling colorful lights that reminded her so much of a time only a decade prior. It was so much like home, but there would always be signs that things were different. She caught sight of her notebooks reflections in the nightstand and she turned to take it, opening it to the spot she left off from her day of investigation. It hadn’t been as fruitful as she wanted, it appeared that everyone she came across generally had the same answer to varying degrees. She sat down gingerly at the edge of the bed to read the notes, even if the lightning was fairly dark.
Her voice was barely above a whisper as she didn’t want to wake her sleeping companion. “Three moons, each with their own god or goddess. They govern over specific animals and traits. Under these moons, the moonblessed undergo a transformation that can vary person to person. Prismals can’t but Chroma is needed for their survival.”
She sighed, the question was why were they chosen? And why did physical affection and intimacy give off Chroma? Why were people from other worlds able to do this and not the natives themselves? These questions and more dotted the page. Eventually, she closed her book and set it back on the nightstand. Miyabi turned to look down at Eikichi, whom she managed to not wake. His make up was gone and his hair was at it’s normal color, although she’d promised she would help get him permanent dye tomorrow so they could color it the way he normally had it. Still, she couldn’t help but frown just a little at the thought. Miyabi liked Eikichi no matter what he looked like, it was who he was that she loved, not his appearance. Her fingers caressed his cheek, unblemished even from the daily ritual of makeup. He shouldn’t have to cover his face or color his hair over something she had said all those years ago. She knew that wasn’t the whole of it, but it had been the start.
But she remembered his words too, that he loved her for who she was too and had forgiven her a long time ago. Miyabi had a hard time forgiving herself sometimes. She combed her fingers through his hair and leaned down to press her face into his neck, taking in his warmth. His friend had died just before he arrived, so now Miyabi needed to be there for him. Lisa and Tatsuya weren’t here either. She nodded slightly, still trying to not wake him.
“I’ll take care of you, Eikichi. We’ll figure out the mystery together. I promise.”
